Procedure
The artist can work from both photographs or life. And often a mixture of the two allows for the best result. But just as each face or landscape is unique, so are the ways to paint it. The artist can schedule sittings for both working in life and setting up for a series of photos. Often other reference photos can be useful in capturing the character and essence of the subject.
The artist will then work on several ideas before arriving at a particular pose or scene, in order to paint or draw the perfect view. The term “artistic licence” needs to be mentioned here, as the best painting is the one in the artist’s head and hands. An arrangement can be made to show the picture in stages of completion.
